ABOUT CCDO
The organization was formed against the background of non-recognition of rural women and young people’s initiatives in spite of their enormous contribution to the country’s economy. CCDO “envisages that all rural young people’s development is fostered, protected from neglected, exploitation, abandonment and are empowered to become self-reliant and responsible citizens in societies where democratic values and principles are respected.”

Chipembere Community Development Organization (CCDO) is a youth led local organization working in rural settings of southern region of Malawi, with a headquarters at Bvumbwe Trading Centre in Thyolo district.

Rural SRHR Access Advocacy
In southern region of Malawi, 12.1% of girls are married before the age of 15 and 52.7% are married before the age of 18. 34% of women experience physical violence since age 15, and 20% had experienced sexual violence. 5% of every pregnant women reports experiencing physical or sexual violence during pregnancy
CCDO found that most of the youth have no access to their sexual reproductive health rights information. In order to deal with this issue, CCDO introduced two projects one in Mulanje District and the other in Thyolo district. The projects are: Enhancing the Protection of 1500 Girls against Early Marriages and SGBV in T/A Nkanda in Mulanje district and “SRHR Advocacy for Rural Adolescents in Thyolo District. These projects are being funded by Hivos.
The overall goal of the project is to provide information about all aspects of sexual, reproductive health and rights of adolescents while fighting child marriages in rural communities of Thyolo and Mulanje districts in Malawi, so that they are aware of the changes they go through and how they should protect themselves against sexual abuse, STIs/HIV/AIDS and forced marriages due to vulnerabilities out of poverty, etc.

Chipembere Community Development Organization with the help of World Connects small grants program, we implemented a project in 2019 at Thyolo district. The project (Provision of Safe and Clean Water involved supplying safe and clean water in rural communities in the southern region of Malawi.
